Home Economics Resource Meetings

You are invited to participate in the ‘Home Economics Resource Meetings’ which have been arranged in the venues outlined below. All meetings will run from 7.00 – 9.00pm. The meetings will give Home Economics teachers the chance to meet and share: Resources which have enhanced the learning of home economics in their classroom. Classroom activities – insights and experiences. Exemplar materials.

We all have useful resources which we use daily. We invite and encourage you to bring along a resource which you find useful in teaching e.g. a worksheet(s), a book, poster(s), games, PowerPoint presentations, models, useful websites etc.

All participants will receive a copy of a resource CD which has been generated and tested in classrooms by teaching colleagues and worked particularly well.

Happy New Year.

Welcome to the new Home Economics webpage.

It is our intention to provide continuing professional development opportunities for teachers of Home Economics. We are currently working with enthusiastic colleagues who are developing exemplar teaching and learning resource materials. We have organised resource meetings in February and March where resources will be shared and the exemplar materials disseminated and invite teachers to attend – we will soon be putting dates and venues onto the website.

With your support we aim to identify, disseminate and share good teaching and learning strategies which will enhance the classroom experience for you and your students.
To ensure that you are notified about all relevant courses email your school name, school roll number, your email and mobile details to homeeconomics@slss.ie (if in doubt register again using the link on the homepage).

If you are an experienced teacher who is passionate about your subject and wish to work with like minded colleagues I invite you to apply to become a local facilitator.
Local Facilitators are teachers who are willing to volunteer to contribute to CPD in their subject or programme areas or other areas where they have expertise and a willingness to contribute. If you wish to become a Local Facilitator in Home Economics, please email timregan@slss.ie

I urge all teachers to regularly use the website forum and share ideas and thoughts with each other. Exchanging ideas and sharing good practice reaffirms our work as professionals.

This website will be continually updated and contain details of upcoming support courses and evaluated classroom resources. If you use active teaching and learning strategies or have generated a classroom resource which you wish to share with colleagues, please contact catherineboyce@slss.ie .
